DSAC Meeting - "Challenging Behaviors"
20. Feb 2010

The DSAC is happy to bring you a Member Meeting in March!

We will be holding a Member Meeting called Understanding the Behavior Language; A Behavior Analytic Approach to Dealing with Challenging Behaviors presented by Natalia Acosta, ABA Therapist. Non-conversational children with Down syndrome, Autism and other developmental disorders who fail to acquire language in a typical manner, generally face social and behavioral difficulties.  As parents and professionals, it is essential to recognize that children with these challenges often use behavior as communication.  This workshop will provide participants with the tools to understand the language of their child’s behaviors: how they are communicating, what they are communicating, and how to respond to this communication by effectively employing strategies to decrease challenging behaviors, while strengthening appropriate behaviors and language skills.

This Member Meeting is being held on Saturday, March 20th, from 10:00am – 12:00pm at First Presbyterian Church at 200 West Trade Street, Charlotte. The meeting will take place in the Pattie Cole Room (S-203). The parking lot is on Poplar Street, to the side of the church.

This meeting is open for free to all parents, educators, and professionals who support children with special needs. Light refreshments will be served starting at 9:30am, the meeting will start at 10am, and then Natalia will speak for approximately 45 minutes, followed by a question and answer session.
About the speaker: Natalia Acosta is a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst who currently consults for children and their families at Stepping Stones Counseling and Consulting of Charlotte. Natalia has a B.A. in Psychology and is certified in Professional Crisis Management (PCM) and Behavioral Observation and Screening, among others. She has years of experience designing and implementing educational and behavioral programs for children with learning disabilities, severe problematic behaviors, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, language and developmental delays. She is passionate about working with children and their caregivers, and is an advocate for excellence in educational and behavioral programs.
Childcare will be provided at First Presbyterian Church if requested. A snack (but not lunch) will be provided for the children.
